HeartRater

HeartRater, an application-driven solution, empowers users to gain insights into their cardiovascular rhythms and physiological states, with the goal of mitigating anxiety. The efficacy of the tool has been validated through a successful study wherein participants, guided by practitioners, found HeartRater highly beneficial in their pursuit of anxiety reduction. The next phase involves refining the application to enable autonomous usage, eliminating the need for practitioner guidance. In an upcoming study, patients will independently leverage the HeartRater tool without direct practitioner involvement, taking a step towards making this tech accessible to a broader audience.

Mission & Process

My mission was to design an app that guides patients through the process, ensuring they feel well-informed and comfortable throughout the study. The app's comprehensive features encompass an introduction to the study and tool usage followed by a study over a 6-week period. The study will engage patients in heartbeat tracking, discrimination, and assessment exercises. Additionally, the app also includes a “practitioner view”

Integral to the user experience design process is the inclusion of end users as active participants, engaging them in several meetings and prototype run-throughs to gather valuable insights and perspectives. This user-centered approach enables an iterative process, where feedback from end users is systematically incorporated into the design. This ensures that the app evolves in response to the unique needs and preferences of the individuals it seeks to serve.

Crucially, the user experience design emphasizes inclusivity, catering to individuals with diverse needs and abilities. The overarching goal is to create an accessible and supportive digital environment that fosters a positive experience for all users involved in the HeartRater project.
